HVAC & Solar Training for UK & Ireland — F-Gas Aligned Lab Practice

Graded diagnostic labs that support F-Gas Category I–IV exam preparation and City & Guilds 2079 competencies — systematic diagnosis practised before you sit the real assessment.

We do not issue F-Gas certificates, REFCOM company registration, MCS accreditation, or any UK or Irish credential. The awarding bodies and certification schemes issue those. We prepare you for the skills their exams test.

Exam preparation

Preparing for the United Kingdom & Ireland exams?

Prepares the diagnostic judgment and refrigerant-handling decisions that support F-Gas Category I–IV and City & Guilds 2079 exam preparation, as mapped on the UK & Ireland alignment page. We do not issue F-Gas certificates or any UK or Irish credential.

Start exam-prep — sit their exam ready

Professional refresher

Already working in United Kingdom & Ireland?

Same labs, tighter time, fewer hints — score against this region. Practising technicians, service managers and energy professionals on 230/400 V 50 Hz residential, commercial RAC and rooftop plant across GB and IE.

Start refresher — stay sharp on the job

Our job is that you walk into their assessment prepared to pass with flying colours. Their job is to issue the credential if you meet their standard. We do not sit or issue that exam. Prepare for F-Gas Cat I / 2079 and RACHP on 230/400 V.

Academy scores are training only. We do not issue the credential — The awarding bodies and certification schemes issue the credentials. Academy completion is not authorisation to work.

Supply, frequency, and conversions

Single-phase
230 V a.c. nominal
Three-phase
400 V (230 V L-N)
Frequency
50 Hz only
Code
BS 7671 (GB) / ETCI-NSAI (IE)
Conductors
mm²
Units
°C, kPa/bar, kg. mm² conductors. 50 Hz only.

Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. Gauges, ambients, and exam items on this track are °C, not Fahrenheit.

Conversion strip — reference only

Supply: V / HzTemperature: °C ↔ °FPressure: kPa ↔ bar ↔ psigMass: kg ↔ lbConductors: mm² ↔ AWG

Working decision values stay in this region's units — the strip is for translating charts and kit from elsewhere.

Marked wrong in labs

  • Treating the supply as 120 V or 60 Hz
  • Treating a UK F-Gas certificate as automatically valid in Ireland

F-Gas Category 1 / 2079 preparation

Theory, recovery practice and leak-testing discipline before you sit the City & Guilds 2079, BESA or LCL assessment.

  • 2079 is the award we prepare you for — approved centres award it, we do not.
  • Category I is the primary focus; Categories II–IV appear only to mark their limits.
  • Assessment arrangements sit with the approved centre — this page carries no booking or application service.

RACHP training & diagnostics

RACHP — refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps — is the UK trade descriptor. These labs drill ordered diagnosis and safety-fail decisions on 230/400 V, 50 Hz supply.

What this region requires

The bodies that actually issue credentials in this market — and exactly what they issue. Always verify current requirements with the authority before applying.

F-Gas awarding bodies (City & Guilds 2079, LCL Awards, BESA)
Issue individual F-Gas Category I–IV certificates under retained Regulation (EU) 517/2014, as amended by the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (Amendment) Regulations 2025. Category I covers all refrigerant-handling activities.
Issues: F-Gas Category I–IV certificates of competency
REFCOM / Quidos / Bureau Veritas
Company certification for businesses handling F-gases — separate from, and additional to, the individual certificates held by technicians.
Issues: Company F-Gas certification
QQI / F-Gas Registration Ltd (Ireland)
The Irish pathway. UK F-Gas certificates are not automatically recognised in Ireland post-Brexit; technicians working in Ireland should follow the QQI / F-Gas Registration route.
Issues: Irish F-Gas certification — see the Ireland note below
MCS / Flexi-Orb and competent person schemes
Solar PV and heat-pump installation accreditation (MCS or Flexi-Orb) and electrical competent person schemes (NICEIC, NAPIT) are separate from F-Gas entirely.
Issues: MCS/Flexi-Orb accreditation and Part P electrical schemes — out of scope here

Labs that already transfer

Every graded lab in the library teaches jurisdiction-neutral diagnostic method — physics, measurement and decision sequence travel across borders. Free labs are playable now without an account; the rest open with HVAC Technical Training — Paths A–D.

Gaps we are filling next

  • A2L / low-GWP refrigerant depth — more labs covering flammable and low-GWP refrigerant handling beyond the current safe-handling decisions.
  • Commercial refrigeration & RTU labs — the commercial library is growing; rack and CO2 work beyond the current labs is not covered yet.
  • Commissioning & documentation — more start-up, handover and documentation scenarios beyond the RTU first start-up lab.

Individual vs company certification

Individual certificates

Individual F-Gas certificates (Category I–IV) are held by the technician and travel with them between employers.

Company certification

Company certification (REFCOM, Quidos, Bureau Veritas) is held by the business. Commercial refrigerant work requires both — an employed certified technician is not enough on its own.

Training scope and safety

  • The Academy provides technical training and instructional scenarios only.
  • Completion does not constitute a professional license, electrical certification, or authorization to work on live electrical systems.
  • Work on photovoltaic, battery, and electrical systems involves potentially lethal voltages and must only be performed by qualified persons, in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and employer safety programs.
  • Labs and materials are educational. The technician and their employer remain solely responsible for safe work practices, isolation, PPE, and compliance on actual jobs.
  • EcoPowerHub AI / EcoService OS makes no warranty that completion of this training guarantees safe or correct field performance.
