HVAC & Refrigeration Training South Africa | Academy
Remote graded diagnostics for South African refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians — not a replacement for polytechnic workshop weeks, but a structured way to build isolation, recovery and fault-order discipline before SAQCC Gas assessment. Work walk-ins, splits and natural-refrigerant plant from anywhere in South Africa, on your own hours.
Interactive decision labs
·Built by working technicians
·Path-based verifiable certificate
·Know which exam to book
·Worldwide online
SAQCC Gas registers practitioners after a recognised safe-handling assessment. CoCs are issued by registered persons only. EcoPowerHub Academy issues a training credential; we do not issue SAQCC registration or CoCs.
Exam preparation
Preparing for the South Africa exams?
Prepares diagnostic and refrigerant-handling judgment that sits beside SAQCC Gas / South African refrigerant-handling and trade practice as described on the South Africa regional page. We do not issue SAQCC or Department of Employment and Labour credentials.
Same labs, tighter time, fewer hints — score against this region. Practising techs, service managers, and energy professionals on 230/400 V 50 Hz rooftop, commercial RAC, and solar-hybrid sites.
After the labs, you know which exam to book. You sit Core / Type / T2 / PV Associate and the equivalents with the examining body, and that body issues the credential. Prepare for the safe-handling assessment and trade-test judgment on 230/400 V.
Academy scores are training only. We do not issue the credential — SAQCC and statutory tickets stay with the authority.
Supply, frequency, and conversions
Single-phase
230 V a.c. nominal (SANS 10142-1; historically 220 V — teach 230 V ±10%, not Kenyan 240 V and not 120 V)
Three-phase
400 V (230 V L-N)
Frequency
50 Hz only
Code
SANS 10142-1
Conductors
mm²
Units
°C, kPa/bar, kg. 50 Hz. Load-shedding / generator changeover is a commissioning awareness item, not a licence claim.
Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. Gauges, ambients, and exam items on this track are °C, not Fahrenheit.
Conversion strip — reference only
Supply: V / HzTemperature: °C ↔ °FPressure: kPa ↔ bar ↔ psigMass: kg ↔ lbConductors: mm² ↔ AWG
Working decision values stay in this region's units — the strip is for translating charts and kit from elsewhere.
Marked wrong in labs
120/240 V 60 Hz on a South African lab
Kenyan 240/415 V nameplate on the SA track
Ignoring SANS 10142-1 in favour of NEC
Who the authority is here
SAQCC Gas
Registration of gas practitioners, including refrigeration and air-conditioning categories.
Issues: The SAQCC Gas registration card and category authorisation — awarded after a recognised safe-handling assessment.
SARACCA
Industry body for refrigeration and air-conditioning contractors and training standards.
Issues: Industry membership and the SARACCA process leading toward SAQCC Gas registration.
QCTO / SETA-accredited providers
Formal occupational qualifications and practical assessment.
Issues: NQF-registered qualifications and trade certificates.
Safe handling of refrigerants — skills, not the statutory course
Recovery, leak control and flammable/low-GWP discipline are the practical core of South African safe-handling expectations. These labs build the skills; the statutory course itself is separate.
The statutory Safe Handling course and SAQCC Gas registration are done at recognised centres after a recognised assessment — not by us.
Two separate tracks — do not confuse them
South Africa has two distinct routes into recognised refrigeration work. They are not interchangeable.
SAQCC Gas authorised refrigeration practitioner (PER)
Registration is issued by SAQCC Gas after completing a recognised-provider safe handling course and following the SARACCA process.
Refrigeration trade test
The trade route runs through the QCTO, an accredited trade-test centre and the merSETA pathway, ending in a trade certificate.
We prepare you for both tracks; neither registration nor the trade certificate comes from us.
Refrigeration trade test prep
Diagnostic drills and safety-fail labs built around the faults assessors actually use: wrong-voltage assumptions, misread scales and charge misdiagnosis.
Trade testing is done by accredited centres/QCTO, not EcoPowerHub Academy.
Ordered diagnosis on 230/400 V
South African supply is 230/400 V, 50 Hz, wired under SANS 10142-1, with SANS 10147 applying to refrigerated spaces. The diagnostic sequence does not change:
•Isolate electrically and prove dead before touching the refrigeration circuit.
•Confirm airflow and charge before condemning a compressor.
•Recover refrigerant only when the repair actually requires it.
•Load-shedding is commissioning awareness only: record supply conditions with every call, don't diagnose around outages.
This is skills preparation, not a credential — registration and trade certificates come from the statutory bodies above.
Preparation scope
What this training prepares you for
•Safe-handling method aligned with SAQCC Gas categories: isolate, recover, leak-test, pressure-test and cylinder discipline.
•Graded labs with safety-fail: unsafe selection fails outright, so reliable method is what progresses you.
•Systematic diagnosis on walk-ins, reach-ins, ice machines and split systems.
•Commissioning measurement and COC-ready documentation you can hand to a registered practitioner.
•Hydrocarbon and CO₂ awareness for natural-refrigerant plant.
What we do not issue
•We do not issue SAQCC Gas registration or any SARACCA authorisation.
•We do not issue Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) — only a registered person may do that.
•We are not a QCTO/SETA-accredited provider and issue no NQF-registered qualification.
