Official credentials vs the EcoPowerHub path certificate

Official statutory credentials
EPA 608 in the United States, SAQCC Gas in South Africa, EPRA/NITA-adjacent authorisations in Kenya, ESSCI RAC qualifications in India and their equivalents elsewhere. These are issued by regulators and certifying bodies, usually carry legal weight for refrigerant handling, and can only be awarded by those bodies.
EcoPowerHub Academy path certificate
A verifiable certificate of diagnostic competency, earned by completing the Commercial Refrigeration / RAC path and passing its graded decision labs. It evidences how you diagnose faults. It is not a licence and does not authorise refrigerant handling anywhere.

The two are complementary. Regulators decide who may handle refrigerant; employers still need evidence that a technician can find the fault. This path evidences the second.

What the Path B certificate represents

  • You can work a commercial refrigeration fault in a defensible order instead of swapping parts
  • You interpret superheat and subcooling against the metering device actually fitted
  • You can diagnose walk-in, reach-in and ice-machine faults including defrost failures
  • You recognise where natural refrigerants and mildly flammable refrigerants change the safe method
  • You verify a repair and document the result before closing the call

How you become eligible

  • Complete the Commercial Refrigeration / RAC path modules in order
  • Pass the graded decision lab at the end of each module
  • Meet the pass threshold across cause, efficiency, safety and verification scoring
  • No prior credential is required to start; refrigerant-handling authorisation remains a separate, official process in your market

Regional exam-prep notes

United States — EPA 608 and NATE

Refrigerant handling is examined under EPA 608; diagnostic knowledge overlaps with NATE content. Prepare here, certify with them.

South Africa — SAQCC Gas / SARACCA

Safe-handling authorisation is issued through SAQCC Gas pathways. Our labs prepare the diagnostic and safe-practice side only.

Kenya / East Africa — RAC and EPRA-adjacent work

Good-servicing practice and RAC competence for regional field crews; official authorisations remain with the relevant bodies.

India — ESSCI RAC and HPMP

Aligns with ESSCI RAC Service Technician (NSQF) and HPMP Good Servicing Practices orientation. ESSCI and the Ozone Cell issue official credentials.

Always verify current requirements with the authority in your jurisdiction.

Certificate

EcoPowerHub Academy path certificate — diagnostic competency

Issued on completion of the Commercial Refrigeration / RAC path. Verifiable, brand-agnostic, and explicitly not a statutory credential or licence.

Path-based, permanently verifiable diagnostic-competency certificate. It is a supplement to, not a replacement for, official credentials required in your region.

Certification questions, answered honestly

Do you issue official commercial refrigeration certification?
No. EcoPowerHub Academy does not issue any statutory or government-recognised refrigeration credential. We issue our own path certificate of diagnostic competency after you complete the Commercial Refrigeration / RAC path and pass its graded labs.
Is this EPA 608?
No. EPA 608 is a United States refrigerant-handling certification issued by EPA-approved certifying organisations. We provide free EPA 608 practice questions and a prep hub, but the credential itself must be earned through an approved certifying body.
Can I take this worldwide?
Yes. The path is online, brand-agnostic and available internationally. The diagnostic method transfers across markets, while the statutory credential you need is decided by the regulator where you work.
What does the path certificate actually prove?
That you completed the path and demonstrated a defensible diagnostic sequence on graded commercial refrigeration scenarios, scored on cause, efficiency, safety and verification. Employers can verify it.
Can I try the training before enrolling?
Yes. Every decision lab linked on this page is free with no login, and the practice tests are free too. Enrol only when you want the full path and the certificate.
Do I need experience to start?
Basic electrical knowledge and some hands-on exposure help. The labs coach wrong turns rather than failing silently, so apprentices can work through them and build the sequence.
