EPA 608 Certification Prep — With Interactive Diagnostic Labs

Learn the refrigerant rules properly, test yourself with free explained questions, then prove the knowledge on graded decision labs built from real service calls.

  • Interactive decision labs
  • Built by working technicians
  • Path-based verifiable certificate
  • Exam preparation only
  • Worldwide online

This is exam preparation only. EPA Section 608 certification is issued by EPA-approved certifying organizations, not by EcoPowerHub Academy or FixGrid. We do not administer the 608 exam and we do not issue EPA, NATE, SAQCC, EPRA or ESSCI credentials.

What EPA 608 actually covers

Core
Ozone and climate basics, the venting prohibition, recovery and recycling rules, cylinder handling, evacuation and safety. Every technician must pass Core.
Type I — small appliances
Factory-sealed appliances charged with 5 lb or less: domestic refrigeration, window units, vending machines.
Type II — high pressure
Residential split systems, packaged rooftops, supermarket racks: leak repair duties, evacuation levels by charge size, non-condensables.
Type III — low pressure
Centrifugal chillers: purge units, rupture discs, leak testing below disc pressure and safe recovery.
Universal
Core plus Types I, II and III. Most commercial service employers expect it within your first year or two.

Start with the free practice test

Core plus Type I, II and III questions, including A2L awareness items, each with a full written explanation. No login, no payment.

Why this is different: the labs come after the test

  • Question banks train recall. Decision labs train the sequence you actually follow on a roof or in a plant room.
  • Every lab grades cause, efficiency, safety and verification — not just the final answer.
  • Wrong turns are coached in the moment, with the readings you would have seen.
  • The debrief shows how a senior technician works the same call.

Refrigerant-handling labs — free

Path A — Residential HVAC

Electrical fundamentals, the refrigeration cycle, airflow, heating and controls, with an EPA 608 and A2L handling module.

Open Path A

Path B — Commercial refrigeration

Sealed systems, walk-ins, ice machines, defrost and natural refrigerants — the higher-skill, less-crowded niche.

Open Path B

The A2L transition

New equipment is shipping with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B. They are classified lower toxicity, mildly flammable, which changes leak detection, ventilation, tool selection, recovery equipment and brazing practice — recover and purge with nitrogen before any heat goes near the system. A2L awareness questions are already in the practice test, and safe handling is covered inside Path A and Path B. A dedicated A2L page is planned; until then the natural refrigerant safe handling lab is the closest hands-on practice.

Certificate

Path certificates are diagnostic competency certificates

Completing a path earns an EcoPowerHub Academy certificate of diagnostic competency. It is not an EPA credential and it does not substitute for EPA Section 608 certification, which must be obtained from an EPA-approved certifying organization.

Path-based, permanently verifiable diagnostic-competency certificate. It is a supplement to, not a replacement for, official credentials required in your region.

Regional exam-prep notes

United States
Supports preparation for EPA 608 (Type II / Universal) and related NATE content. We do not issue the EPA or NATE credential.
South Africa
Aligns with safe-handling expectations under SAQCC Gas / SARACCA pathways. We prepare; SAQCC Gas issues the authorisation.
Kenya / East Africa
Supports good-servicing practice and RAC technician competence relevant to NITA / EPRA-adjacent work. Official authorisations remain with the relevant bodies.
India
Aligns with ESSCI RAC Service Technician (NSQF) and HPMP Good Servicing Practices orientation. ESSCI and the Ozone Cell issue official credentials.

Always verify current requirements with the authority in your jurisdiction.

EPA 608 questions technicians ask

Does EcoPowerHub Academy issue EPA 608 certification?
No. EPA Section 608 certification is issued only by EPA-approved certifying organizations. We provide preparation: free practice questions, structured study and graded diagnostic labs.
Which EPA 608 type should I take?
Take Core plus the type that matches your work. Residential and light commercial service is Type II; sealed small appliances are Type I; centrifugal chillers are Type III. Universal covers all three.
Does EPA 608 expire?
EPA Section 608 technician certification does not expire. Keep your card, and keep up with rule changes such as the refrigerant transition requirements.
What about A2L refrigerants?
The industry is transitioning to lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B. They are mildly flammable, so they change leak detection, ventilation, tooling and brazing practice. Our practice bank includes A2L awareness items and the paths cover safe handling.
How is this different from a question dump?
Every practice answer carries a written explanation, and after the questions you work interactive decision labs on real faults. Recall alone does not make a diagnostician.
Is any of this free?
The practice test, this hub and the diagnostic labs listed here are free with no login. Full paths with certificates are paid enrolments.
