What the track builds for T1, T2 and T3

Each class below lists the modules from the Solar Service Technician track that build that competence. Module titles come straight from the curriculum, so what you read here is what you get.

T1

Small standalone DC systems

Solar home systems, DC lighting and small standalone installations — the work where safe isolation, correct sizing of the DC side and honest commissioning evidence decide whether the system survives its first year.

You should be able to

  • Identify every block of an unfamiliar PV system before touching a tool
  • Isolate and prove dead on the DC side, then keep proving it
  • Take meaningful DC voltage, current and continuity measurements under load
  • Record a commissioning result an assessor can check rather than take on trust

T2

Medium systems with inverters and batteries

Systems with inverters, charge control and battery storage, where AC and DC hazards coexist and diagnosis has to separate a module problem from a controller problem from a battery problem.

You should be able to

  • Follow an installation sequence that protects torque, weatherproofing and conductor integrity
  • Read inverter behaviour and fault codes instead of guessing at replacement
  • Work battery storage safely, respecting stored energy and shutdown order
  • Run first-line diagnosis that reaches the actual fault on the first visit

T3

Grid-tied and hybrid systems

Grid-connected and hybrid installations where interconnection procedure, protection settings, monitoring and documentation matter as much as the physical build.

You should be able to

  • Commission to spec and prove performance with condition-corrected numbers
  • Work an intermittent or systemic fault to a defensible conclusion
  • Use monitoring data as evidence rather than decoration
  • Produce documentation that stands up to a utility, an inspector or a warranty claim

NITA-aligned competence expectations

Kenyan employers and assessors expect demonstrated competence, not attendance. Every lab in the track is graded against what the work actually requires, with an 80% pass mark and an automatic fail for any safety-critical error — the same posture a competence-based assessment takes.

KEBS quality benchmarks

Modules on site assessment, installation and commissioning teach you to check that components and workmanship meet the declared standard: genuine nameplates, correct conductor and protection sizing, mechanical fixing that survives the season, and measured results recorded honestly.

KPLC grid-connection procedure

Grid-tied and hybrid work is treated as a process, not just a wiring job. The commissioning and documentation modules cover the evidence pack, protection behaviour and handover records that a utility connection process depends on.

EPRA licensing and training FAQ

What do EPRA T1, T2 and T3 solar technician licences cover?
Broadly, T1 covers small standalone DC systems, T2 covers medium systems with inverters and battery storage, and T3 covers grid-tied and hybrid installations. EPRA publishes the definitive scope and requirements for each class, and you should always confirm current requirements directly with EPRA before applying.
Is this training accredited or approved by EPRA, NITA or KEBS?
No. EcoPowerHub Academy is independent technical training. It does not issue a licence and is not an EPRA-approved or NITA-accredited course. It is designed to build the practical diagnostic depth that assessments test, alongside the licensing route you follow with EPRA.
What does the EPRA practical assessment involve?
Practical assessment is about demonstrating safe, correct method under observation: isolating properly, taking valid measurements, wiring and terminating to standard, and explaining why you are doing what you are doing. Confirm the current format with EPRA, because it is the assessor's method — not ours — that you are being marked against.
How do online labs help with a hands-on exam?
The part technicians fail is rarely the muscle memory — it is the decision order. Our 30 graded labs rehearse exactly that: what you check first, what you never touch until it is proven dead, and how you reason from a symptom to a cause. You bring that judgment to the bench and the workshop time goes further.
Does this replace TVET or physical training?
No, and it is not meant to. Physical training gives you hands on equipment. This gives you the diagnostic reasoning to use that time well and to keep improving after the course ends. Technicians who do both walk into a practical assessment with fewer surprises.
Do I need to be licensed already to enrol?
No. Technicians preparing for their first class, technicians upgrading from T1 to T2, and working installers who want stronger fault-finding all use the same track. Licensed work in Kenya must be carried out by appropriately licensed persons.
How much does it cost in Kenyan shillings?
Enrolment is a one-time USD 997, roughly KES 128,600 at an indicative 129 KES to the dollar. Charges are made in USD, so your bank's rate applies. Companies enrolling a crew can request a KES invoice.
Can my company be invoiced in KES, or can I pay with M-Pesa?
KES invoicing for company enrolments is available on request by email. M-Pesa is not live yet — register your interest and we will contact you when local payment is enabled.
