T3 Grid-Tie & Hybrid Solar Course (Kenya)

Advanced training for grid-connected and hybrid PV systems. Prepare for the EPRA T3 solar PV technician licence with practical, career-focused instruction.

How licensing works

EcoPowerHub Academy awards your course completion certificate. EPRA issues the T3 licence on a successful application. We train you and help you prepare — see our EPRA solar technician training overview.

Who it is for

Who Should Take T3

The step from standalone and battery work into grid-connected systems is where method matters most — the utility, the protection settings and the paperwork all get a vote.

  • Licensed T2 technicians ready to move into grid-tied and hybrid work

  • Electrical and solar engineers who want advanced, decision-level depth

  • Installers targeting commercial, C&I and grid-connected residential projects

EPRA T3 pathway

EPRA T3 Prerequisites

To apply for the EPRA Class T3 Solar PV Technician licence, candidates typically need to meet one of the following pathways:

PathwayAcademic RequirementExperience Requirement
Pathway AKCSE + Diploma in Electrical or Electronics + intermediate solar trainingVerifiable 4 years of solar installation experience
Pathway BBSc Electrical Engineering (or relevant degree) or Higher National DiplomaVerifiable 2 years of solar installation experience
  • Important: EPRA is the final authority. Always verify the latest requirements on the official EPRA portal before applying. Most candidates progress through T1/T2 before applying for T3.

Two streams

Choose Your Stream

Most senior technicians eventually take both streams. This course is structured so you can focus on either stream or complete both.

T3 Grid-Tie

Systems that import from and export to the grid: interconnection procedure, protection settings, anti-islanding behaviour and utility documentation.

T3 Hybrid

Grid plus battery backup: AC- and DC-coupled architectures, inverter-charger operating modes, load prioritisation and shutdown order.

Assessment

Practical Component & Assessment

This course includes graded diagnostic labs and simulation-based practical exercises focused on grid-tie and hybrid systems. You will work through commissioning workflows, fault-finding scenarios, and documentation practice aligned with EPRA expectations.

Assessment

  • Continuous practical assessment through graded labs
  • Final technical evaluation
  • Course completion certificate issued by EcoPowerHub Academy (for use in your EPRA T3 application)

Lab component

The practical work is delivered as graded simulation labs rather than bench time: grid-tie and hybrid commissioning sequences, isolation and shutdown order, fault-finding ladders and documentation practice. You make the calls, and the lab marks the decisions you made and the order you made them in.

Training scope and safety

  • The Academy provides technical training and instructional scenarios only.
  • Completion does not constitute a professional license, electrical certification, or authorization to work on live electrical systems.
  • Work on photovoltaic, battery, and electrical systems involves potentially lethal voltages and must only be performed by qualified persons, in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and employer safety programs.
  • Labs and materials are educational. The technician and their employer remain solely responsible for safe work practices, isolation, PPE, and compliance on actual jobs.
  • EcoPowerHub AI / EcoService OS makes no warranty that completion of this training guarantees safe or correct field performance.

Study by competency, not by guesswork

The Academy's solar material is mapped to ten competency clusters shared across NABCEP, Kenya's EPRA and NITA standards, and South Africa's PV GreenCard and QCTO qualifications. Exam-prep and skills support only — the licensing bodies issue the credentials.
